In this hands-on workshop you learn about the history and techniques while creating your own ‘Hardanger' embroidery. Hardanger is a traditional Norwegian Counted Thread technique. It is used to decorate both clothing and tableware. Traditionally worked as white on white it also works well with a modern twist in colour. The technique involves stitching a variety of holding stitches and blocks then cutting and removing threads to leave spaces which can be
decorated or left blank. In this workshop you will create a scissorkeeper using a selection of stitches.
Materials provided: Fabric, needles, and threads are supplied as part of the workshop fee.
Bring your own: small, sharp scissors for snipping threads and a 6” embroidery hoop. A hoop is needed for keeping the fabric taut when cutting threads.
