In this hands-on workshop you learn about the history and techniques while creating your own ‘Iron Eagle’ design based on Saxon embroidery techniques.

For this embroidery you will use three basic stitches from the Saxon era to create an eagle design. The design is based on a Roman eagle, both Romans and Saxons were part of the Iron Age, with the Saxons using Roman remains to build and decorate their homes in the 6th and 7th Centuries, sharing some cultural symbols.

In this one-day workshop, you will learn basic Saxon stitches and have the choice of three options: wool on linen twill; wool and silk on linen twill or silk on silk. This workshop is suitable to beginners or intermediate embroiderers wishing to challenge themselves using different materials combinations.

Materials provided: Fabric and threads are supplied as part of the workshop fee.
