In this hands-on workshop you learn about the history and techniques while creating your own ‘Dragon’ design based on crewelwork embroidery. Crewelwork, also known as Jacobean, is traditional embroidery technique. In this one-day workshop, you will learn a selection of the traditional Jacobean stitches to create a ‘Dragon’ design. The design is based on the Welsh legend of Merlin and Vortigern that explains how the red dragon became a symbol of Wales. To develop your dragon you will use crewelwork stitches and woollen threads to create your red (or a white) dragon. During the workshop the four stitches for the design will be taught for you to take your piece home and finish it. We will get you started and you will have everything you need to complete your embroidery in your own time. Materials provided: Fabric and threads are supplied as part of the workshop fee. Bring your own: 8 inch embroidery hoop.
