Celebrating this year's creativity at Tecstiliau

At Tecstiliau we are so proud of all the crafters we have seen working on their projects, big and small, this year. Here's a flavour of a few of them.

Sarah P-J attended our Origami Top workshop, "I really enjoy coming over to Tecstiliau, it's a lovely, relaxed and supportive atmosphere.

"Most crafts are solitary in their nature which makes it extra nice to come together to find new ideas and inspiration.

"The ethical and environmental side appeals to me, I have become far more conscious of how and where I spend my money and time."

Sue has created small woven landscape pictures, "I started in the Covid times, I needed to do something to take my mind off the stress.

"At three o'clock in the morning I started to weave, and it started to look like the fields next to the Menai strait. I used yarns with different textures to create the walls and the wood.

"Gradually, North Wales appeared in front of me. And I felt pleasure from my weaving.

"This year I have had them framed by Oriel Ger Y Fenai, Bethan has guided me."

Francine is a regular Quilt Club attender, "I think I heard about Tecstiliau on Facebook and saw that it was local to me.

"So I had to attend the Quilt Club patchwork sessions! I value meeting up with fellow quilters who share the same passion for sewing and patchwork.

"I love the club and will only miss a session if I’m in another country.

"I also love the new blocks and tricks we learn each month. Thanks for organising!"

Rosie's favourite thing she made this year was a circle skirt woven from yarn made of cotton and silk.

"I didn't like the yarn to begin with but I was really pleased with the finished thing, it drapes really well. To see a project through, amd make something that you can then use, is hugely satisfying. Overall if you count up the hours, it doesn't necessarily take that long.

"It was a lesson in being braver and making the effort to turn all the bits of fabric you have into something that you can then wear."

A Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you all!
