Keep it out of landfill
Repair Cafe is about helping you fix your own things. Our volunteer fixers will try their best to help with whatever you bring in… Kettles, hedge trimmers, laptops, printers, clocks, lamps, clothing, decorative items… We also have bike ‘health checks’ available.

Why do it?
“We don’t need to go out and buy new stuff, we can just fix it.” says Rosie Green, co-founder of Tecstiliau, an organisation known as a hub for sustainable textiles in the region. “When you take responsibility for learning to mend things it gives huge satisfaction and self belief. The industrial revolution made us forget that!”
According to Lowri Hedd from Gwyrdd Ni, who helped to set up the Repair Cafe in Bethel, “The environmental costs of manufacturing are huge. Consumerism and disposability is a big problem. Plus the cost of living is rising and there’s a financial benefit to making your stuff last longer.”
It’s not just about fixing stuff
Repair Cafe is also a great place to meet neighbours from around Bethel. People come month after month to support each other, have a panad and catch up.
“It gives me such inspiration to help people and to be helped by others,” says Rosie, who often shows people how to mend tears, rips and holes in their clothes, or sew on buttons.
Lowri says, “It’s so important to build community and appreciate the local resources we have in each other, to feel there are people you can turn to when you need help.”

Repair Cafe happens monthly on the second Sunday 1-3pm at Tecstiliau in Bethel. Bring one item you'd like to have a go at fixing. No need to book.
